This project enabled a large gas-fired unit (consisting of one conventional once-throughrnboiler and one steam turbine repowered with two gas turbines and relevant heat recoveryrnsteam generators ) normally operating at an efficiency, at unit full load (900 MW), of aboutrn43% (therefore higher than traditional thermal power stationsrnbut lower than new generationrncombined cycles), to be competitive on the electric power market of the future selling anrneconomically valuable power reserve while operating at around 320 MW, with an efficiencyrnclose to nominal even with this minimum load.rnThe 320 MW total load is obtained operating the unit (one steam turbine and two gas turbines)rnin pure combined cycle mode (I.e. with the main boiler out of operation ).rnThe pure combined cycle operation mode of this type of power plant, as designed by Ansaldornin co-operation with Enel Produzione, represents an absolute innovation on the internationalrnmarket.
