The primary objective of this paper is to realisticallyrnassess the impact on the overall ground systemrnperformance and measurements of a transmission stationrndue to a complex environment including; a veryrninhomogeneous soil structur structure, a microwave site, anrne, auxiliary ground site, a nearby lake and slag pool, rnmultiple transmission line equipped with skywires, arndistribution line neutral, pole grounds and a neighbouringrntown distribution network while accounting for significantrnseasonal resistivity variations of top soil layers as requiredrnby IEC Standard 61936-1. Since the present NorthrnAmerican high voltage substation grounding standardsrn(ANSI/ IEEE Standards 80 a and 665, respectively) do notrnnd directly address this issue and very little informationrnexists in other grounding literature, this study focuses onrnthe behaviour and safety of the grounding system inrnsummer, winter and spring soil conditions.
