In this study, exergy analysis and efficiency estimation were applied to a ladle preheating process. The analysis was performed on a 25 ton capacity ladle. In the experiment, thermocouples had been installed to the ladle refractory at several positions in order to measure temperature of the refractory. Then, the obtained data was used to analyse energy and exergy balance of ladle preheating process. Efficiency of a conventional and regenerative burner, which is operated on heavy oil was defined. In this analysis, the first preheating of a ladle performed to estimate the burner efficiency. The results showed that the exergy efficiencies of the conventional burner and the regenerative burner are equal to 19.38% and 22.86%, respectively. In addition, the exergy destruction of the conventional burner and the regenerative burner are equal to 62.88% and 66.48%, respectively.
