In this study, we investigate the transient stability criteria for an inverter-based distributed generator (DG) connected to an infinite bus system. The DG system is first compared and contrasted with the synchronous generator (SG) system using their mathematical expressions. The differential equations of the two systems that govern the frequency and phase of the generator output are similar. On the other hand, the effects of the DG and SG control systems on the generator behavior are different because of the difference in the response time of the control systems. The numerical experiment results show that the stability criteria of the DG system have different characteristics from that of the SG system.
