The complete hardware and software design of a new microconputer-based ocntroller for a slip energy recovery induction motor drive is presented. the drive incorporates a three phase recifier, a smoothing reactor, three single-phase line commutated inverter, and three transformers. The proposed controller allows operating the inverter in the freewheeling mode to improve the system power factor. The new controller has the advantages of high accuracy and high noise immunity which are important factors for industrial applications. The software includesnd efficient soft starter ot start the induction motor coupled to the inverter in the slip energy recovery system. The soft starter performance can be tuned to fit the characteristics of any load inertia. Speed control of jthe drive is simulated, then experimentally tested using the proposed controller. Detailed design of the controller and experimental results are shown.
