In this paper, a novel idrect pulse mode change-over method changing the pulse mode from asynchronous PWM to one pulse mode is discussed. In some kinds of applications, such as electrical railway traction system, for the purpose of reducing the excessive torque ripples and improving the adhesion and acoustic noise problem caused by the pulse mode change-over, the direct pulse mode changing from asynchronous PWM to one pulse mode is desired. THis novel method is realized by suing the over-modulation techniques to change the pulse mode smoothly form asynchronous PWM to one pulse mode. Because the middle pulse modes are not used in the novel method, there is no excessive torque ripples occurred.
