Effectiveness of Application of Porous Powder Materials for Separation of Water from Petroleum Products

One of the most perspective materials for separation of petroleum products from moisture, due to their high capillary and filtering properties, are porous permeable materials (PPM) from metal and polymer powders. The needed properties of filtering materials may be ensured only by a correct choice of the source materials and the corresponding capillar and physical—mechanical, structural properties as well as the design of a filtering element. The carried out experimental investigations showed that the more effective material for separation of water from petroleum products is a material consisting of two layers. The basis must be made of a sintered powder of bronze or titanium with small pore sizes which ensures a necessary mechanical strength, low moisture saturation ability, the needed fineness of purification and permeability, the second layer must be made of a fluoroplastig (PTFE) powder and ensure a separation of moisture from petroleum products. The carried out tests of filters for moisture separation from dieselfuel showed that the given materials enable to make 100% separation of moisture from petroleum products.
