This study considers the influence of particle size, frequency, and exited magnetic flux density as well as the crystal grain size of the particles on the losses of Fe-Si atomized powder cores. The optimum particle size for minimum core loss at different magnetic flux densities excitation and frequencies was experimentally determined. If frequency is low, under 2kHz, core loss decreases as the particle size increases, as core loss mainly depends on the hysteresis loss. If the frequency is between about 2kHz and 30kHz, core loss shows a minimum at the specific particle size. If frequency is higher than 30 kHz, core loss increases as the particle size increases, as core loss mainly depends on eddy current loss. The cores with atomized Fe-Si powder show the advantages at high frequency compared to conventional Fe-Si lamination steels and have a potential in applications as magnetic cores in power supplies and motors.
