Interest in machining of stones has grown with their widespread use as structural engineering materials. Stone materials are especially advantageous in situations requiring high hardness and wear resistance together with aesthetic performances. A critical step in the production of stone components is their machining to obtain the required shape. Diamond tools are used to remove hard rocks from quarries and then used to cut these rocks once they are removed. To obtain the optimum machining quality it is necessary to enhance the properties of the diamond tool. The properties of diamond abrasive and the adhesion between the diamond grains and the bond determine properties of diamond tools. In this work cold plasma treatment of diamonds has been analysed, in order to improve the adhesion between the metallic matrix and the diamond grains. Experimental tests have been carried and encouraging results have been obtained.
