This article deals with an important question for every power supply designer:rnWhich is the optimal power factor correction (PFC) topology for my AC to DC power supply project?rnThe paper presents a theoretical topology study and compares practical results. State of the art PFCrntopologies are investigated under identical design philosophy for 1 kW output power at a wide inputrnvoltage range.rnThe analysed topologies are PFC stages in continuous conduction mode (CCM) and in criticalrnconduction mode (CRM). The contribution covers the comparison between interleaving, noninterleavingrncircuits and various semiconductors, including IGBTs.rnThe focus is on: theoretical system comparison, design requirements and measurement results ofrnefficiency and EMI. The presented results are discussed in detail.
