Wind turbines are being rapidly introduced globally, but they have a grid frequency problem causedrnby the intermittency of the wind turbines. This problem could be overcome by using a hybrid systemrncomposed of wind turbines and battery storage. This study aims to lengthen battery lifetime by reducingrnbattery charge/discharge current. A control method with a stand-by mode is presented, and its performancernis evaluated using a computer simulation. The simulation results show that the proposedrncontrol method reduces a cumulative charge/discharge current to about half that of the conventionalrncontrol method. The first hybrid wind farm using the proposed control was also developed. The simulatedrncumulative charged current agreed well with the measured one on the farm.
