OPC Benefits Users and Manufacturers of SCADA Equipment

The OPC Foundation is currently comprised of over 60 companies worldwide. In addition, the OPC Foundation has formed an OPC-Europe Council, which is a subsidiary of the independent OPC Foundation, to study country specific interests faced by the European community. The OPC standard is in the public domain and available to anyone who wishes to use it. A copy of the standard is posted on the Microsoft FTP server and the OPC Foundation's Internet Home page. Sample code for OPC interfaces can be found in these areas as well as on many vendors' web pages. They provide a code framework that includes the majority of the OPC interfaces. OPC has gained a high degree of interest by control and automation equipment suppliers. The adoption of OPC compliant products will be highly dependent of user demand and on the individual actions of vendors.
