NEXT GENERATION LEARNING CONTENT DEVELOPMENT MANAGEMENT: A FINANCIAL SERVICES CASE STUDY

The world's financial markets move at great pace. Change is the natural state in the global financial services industry. Training organisations providing into this business sector are finding that they also need to move at great pace if they are to provide effective and relevant learning and performance support to the industry. Over the past two years, Online Courseware Factory (OCF) has been working with one of the leading organisations providing specialised training to banks and broking houses around the world. The objective has been to develop and manage learning content in such a way that the following needs were addressed: 1. The increasing demand for immediate access to relevant 'personalised' knowledge and learning by specialised and highly skilled employees in financial trading rooms. 2. The increasing demand for at least some of the learning provision to move from 'event' to 'processes', where more and more learning is required within the work context and less and less time can be spent in the non-productive environment of the classroom. 3. The increasing need for learning programmes and content to be produced rapidly and cost-effectively, and to be easily updated. 4. The move to the development and use of learning content in a standard granular form, so that there is an increased opportunity for re-purposing and re-use.
