Economics is a universal driving force in the oil and gasrnindustry whether offshore or on land, and the “all or nothing”rngas market of the Netherlands is no exception. With extremelyrnheavy demand in the winter and very low demands in thernsummer, the capacity to cover the peak demands pays veryrnhigh returns.rnThe capability to boost significantly the productionrncapacity of existing wells by increasing the size of therncompletion is both economically and environmentallyrnattractive. The development of a 13% chromium (13Cr) solidrnexpandable tubular production quality liner enables thernoperator to gain extra capacity without drilling infill wells orrnbuilding more surface facilities. Furthermore, abandonmentrncosts are not affected.rnSolid expandable tubular technology also providesrnoperators with the flexibility to respond to the sudden increasernin future gas demands as dictated by the market. Developmentrnof new sealing systems, expansion assemblies, and gas tightrnexpandable connections were required to make this technologyrna reality.rnThis paper discusses the planning, testing, and applicationrnof this environmentally sound and economically advantageousrntechnology. In this particular application, productivity of thernwell increased from 38.5 mln scf/d to 63.5 mln scf/d. Thernpaper also expounds on the potential impact this technologyrnwill have on the future of the oil and gas industry.
