Underbalanced drilling operations offshore and at remoternlocations onshore curtail having a large number of personnelrnon-site. When the expertise of specialists is required datarnacquisition with real-time remote monitoring allows them tornquickly become familiar with the problems, by having easyrnelectronic access via the web or data exchange to history ofrnthe field, drawings, daily reports, logs, and, most critically, arncomplete set of downhole and surface data which they canrnthen use in their evaluation and analysis.rnThe design of advanced data acquisition and monitoringrnsystems are presented for several underbalanced drillingrnapplications in remote locations both onshore and offshore.rnThe system design, implementation, and lessons learned fromrnthe operations are described.rnFor the field cases presented, each operation hadrnassociated challenges that needed to be addressed to allow forrnreal time data acquisition and monitoring. This paper describesrndifferent aspects of the design and setup of these systems forrnseveral recent field operations at remote locations onshore asrnwell as offshore. The lessons learned to successfullyrnimplement these systems are of significance as thisrntechnology matures.
