The eastern deepwater (>200m) extensions of the basinsrnin Vietnam’s marine have not been intensively explored.rnThis paper presents the geological characteristics of therndeepwater eastern offshore Vietnam and the challenges inrngeophysical technology to study them.rnThe petroleum systems and geological structure of therndeepwater areas are very complicated and different fromrnthose in shallow water areas (complex structural andrnstratigraphy traps, carbonate and sandstone reservoirs withrnhigh temperature and pressure, etc.)rnWith the complicated geological and technical conditionsrnof the deepwater areas, it is necessary to enhance the effectrnof the geophysical processing for oil and gas. To solve thesernproblems, many of the latest technologies have been appliedrnsuch as pre-stack depth migration, geostastical modeling,rnseismic attribute analysis, coherency, 3D visualizationrntechnology, etc.rnMany of the technologies are still undergoingrndevelopment but we can expect them to be more developedrnand reliable within the next few years. For example, HTHPrnlogging while drilling, non- conventional in deepwater areasrnwill be more focused on discovering new oil and gas fieldsrnand increasing production.
