In 1997 TotalFinaElf installed a multiphase meter on anrnoffshore unmanned wellhead platform in the Middle East. Therndecision to go for the multiphase metering alternative, ratherrnthan a test separator, was based on the potential high savingsrnin CAPEX and OPEX. Monitoring of the multiphase flow atrnthe wellhead eliminates the need for dedicated testlines fromrnremote wellhead completions, as well as the need for arndedicated test separator at the processing facility. At this field,rnthe deployment of a multiphase meter has contributed inrnimproving the economy of the full project and improving ourrnunderstanding of the hydrodynamics of the reservoir near thernwellbore. This experience demonstrates that MPFM can be arnvery reliable solution for well testing and well monitoring;rnnevertheless success requires a minimum involvement of allrnpeople (project people, specialists, users) from design studiesrnto operations.
