TiB_2/AlN composites were fabricated by in-situ combustion synthesis (combustion synthesis, CS) with Ti, Al, BN as initial powders; The combustion temperature(T_c) of the reaction system was measured. It is proved that T_c is one of the main factors which affect the composition of the synthesized products. At higher T_c , the synthesized products consisted mainly of TiB_2, AlN, and a trace of TiB, TiAl. After adjusting T_c by decreasing the density of the green compacts, the appearance of TiB and TiAl were eliminated from synthesized products, and uniform TiB_2/AlN composites were then obtained. It was found that BN can be used as solid nitrogen source to fabricate nitride composites in this investigation.
