摘要

The Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF) is an Underground Science Laboratoryrnlocated at the old Homestake Gold Mine in Lead, South Dakota. SURF has been constructed to host sensitivernparticle physics experiments requiring shielding from cosmic radiation. The Ross Shaft is one of two accessrnshafts used to access physics experiments currently located nearly 5,000 feet below the surface. Built in thernearly 1930s, Ross Shaft has been subject to significant deterioration and requires a complete refurbishmentrnto support construction of future underground laboratories. This paper discusses the design and constructionrnassociated with the refurbishment of the Ross Shaft.
