At present, technology innovation is hampered by a historically biased vision of traditional and non-traditional manufacturing, a too narrow devotion to specific branches of technology and the lacking of a general methodology in manufacturing. Energy Field Methods have been widely used in many manufacturing processes, but no systematic approach has been explored. The authors explain that the Energy Field Method is central in the solution of manufacturing engineering tasks based on the analysis of representative processes. Some general methodologies are inferred, and an energy field analysis strategy is reviewed. The concept, potential impacts, and future efforts of Energy Field Manufacturing are discussed.
