The need for a 'Green' sound of E-cars - The challenge of Passung

As a consequence of the financial and climate crisis the hybrid car - with the combinationrnof combustion and an electric engine - and the E-Car have been developed.rnIt’s commonly known that the sound of the E-Cars will have to be modified. In fact, theserncars definitely sound too quiet. Correspondingly, the Washington Post reports about therndeadly silence of the electro car. One of the main messages and conclusions with regard tornthe IAA 2009 is that “Green /Green Sound” is fancy. The sound of the future is supposed tornbe “Green”. However, no one really knows what this “Green Sound” implies and how itrnshould be designed. Finding the solution to this problem is a challenge for psychornacousticians and the “new experts” who have a clear idea of how their new ecologicallyrndesigned environments should sound. In this paper we discuss which methods of evaluationrncan contribute to determine the “Green Sound”. The overall aim is to define and torndetermine the meaning of this sound.
