Tubular steel jointing system that incorporates prestressed grout sleeve connections rather than conventional bolted or welded connections is an innovation. Research at Monash University in the last 10 years demonstrated that this innovative connection has superior strength under both static and dynamic loading. This paper reports a pilot project investigating the effect of high temperature on the compression capacity of prestressed grout tubular joints. Eleven specimens were tested with different temperatures. The specimens were heated in a furnace and the load was applied through an Instron machine. Three different grout lengths were chosen. The temperatures were measured using thermocouples. The load deflection behaviour at different temperatures was compared. It was found that ultimate load reduces almost linearly as temperature difference between outer and inner tubes increases. It is encouraging to observe the ductile behaviour of grouted joints at elevated temperature.
