Voice and display interfaces to capture elderly and disabled persons' physical problems

摘要

The number of elderly and disabled persons who require nursing is increasing, and it is becoming an urgent matter to reduce the workload of the nursing people. We are conducting a research work to recognize, analyze, verify, and transmit to a database mainly physical problems spoken by persons who are nursed so that a remotely-located doctor, nurse or attendant can look at their physical records. A short natural sentence consisting of a part of the human body and the its problem (pain, fever, loss of motion, breakdown, etc.) spoken by an aged person is captured by voice recognition software and semantically analyzed using dictionaries to identify the body part and problem, which are immediately illustrated with a human-shaped 3D figure on the computer display. The problem area is shown in red or a different color depending on the type of the problem and is enlarged for better visibility. If an error in understanding the problem by the computer is recognized, then the user can correct it by choosing a right item in a menu on the screen by saying its item number or by doing an alternative. The identified problem information is formatted (in XLM) and transmitted to a remote computer and stored into its data base.
