How to Utilize Task Taxonomies for the Design of Web Applications 'for All'

摘要

Although there exists a variety of frameworks to develop web applications based on usability-engineering principles, few approaches exist that guide developers on how to put these guidelines to practice. In this paper we suggest to utilize task taxonomies for web application design. Several taxonomies are discussed, for browsing-oriented interaction tasks, and for generic, but domain-oriented work tasks in distributed information spaces. The embodiment of taxonomy-driven design in task-based interface engineering is discussed. The need of providing a variety of interaction modalities at the interface as well as of the flexibility to accomplish tasks in different ways is elaborated.
