SONET (Synchronous Optical NETwork) is an optical interface standard whichprovides for interoperability and mid-span meets of transmission equipment fromdifferent suppliers in the public and private telecommunication networks. SONET(Synchronous Optical Network) is not only a national standard, but an internationalstandard. ITU-T (formally CCITT) refers to SONET as SDH (Synchronous DigitalHierarchy). Have you ever asked if these two standards are the same? This paper willaddress the compatibility between these two standards and explain the differencebetween the two terminology’s.
