Introduction High temperature is one of the major environmental stress that limit forage crop growth and productivity in Korea. small heat shock proteins (small HSPs) are produced ubiquitously in prokaryoric and eukaryotic cells upon heat stress. Small Hsps are usually undetectable in vegetative tissue under normal growth conditions, but can be induced by environmental stress. The correlation between the biosynthesis of small Hsps and stress response led to the hypothesis that small Hsps protect cells from the detrimental effects of stress. Among small HSPs, however, molecular mechanism of the mitochondrial small HSP (Mthsp24) is largely unknown. so it is needed to assay the characterization of Mthsp24 gene in Arabidopsis plant under the abiotic stresses. Finally if Mthsp24 gene is introduced into forage crops, it could increase thermotolerance.
