THE USE OF HIGH STENGTH STEELS / ULTRA HIGH STENGTH STEELS IN THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY

In the last years the reduction of fuel consumption, the crash resistance increase and all the environmental aspects have become the main technical drivers for the car manufacturers. Of course these subjects have always to be considered in a cost control evaluation. rnThanks to the introduction of High Strength Steels-Ultra High Strength Steels (HSS-UHSS) and a consequent design, Fiat Group Automobiles (FGA) has reached significant results in terms of weight reduction of the vehicles. rnIn the presentation we will deepen the technical aspects mentioned above and the related implications. rnWe will also analyze in detail Fiat Group Automobiles use of HSS-UHSS steels in the last models, and the significance of this approach in terms of design and manufacturing. rnIt’s also fundamental to consider that the introduction of HSS-UHSS steels is interesting for all Fiat Group Automobiles world-wide projects. This requires a continuous and deep connection with the steel suppliers because they have to guarantee the availability in loco of such steels, in order to optimize logistic and costs. rnSummarizing, the presentation will show Fiat Group Automobiles choices and will deepen the aspects related to each choice.
