In petroleum seismic exploration records,surface waves act as disturbing waves which should be removed from the records to raise signal-to-noise ratio before de-convolution and stacking.The typical characteristics that enable us to separate surface waves from body waves lie in their difference in velocity and frequency.In the time-space (t-x) domain,surface waves and body waves interfere with each other so it is difficult to separate them.However,it is feasible to separate them in the frequency-velocity (f-v) domain because of different velocities and frequencies that they behave,which provides a theoretical foundation for suppressing surface waves in the f-v domain.In this paper,a shot gather is transformed from the t-s domain to the f-v domain by high-resolution linear Radon transform,and then surface waves can be suppressed in the f-v domain.Afterwards,the seismic data in which surface waves have been suppressed are transformed back to the t-x domain to achieve success in suppressing surface waves.Results of synthetic and real-wofld examples demonstrate the feasibility of this method.
