Gas Technology Institute (GTI), with support from the U.S. Department of Energy andrnBrookhaven National Lab, is developing small-scale natural gas liquefaction systems for use inrnvehicles, remote gas, and other specialty natural gas markets. This work is presently targeted at arn4 to 40 m3/day (1,000 to 10,000 gallons/day, gpd) production capability for the liquefied naturalrngas (LNG) vehicle market.rnThe GTI system uses mixed refrigerants in a simple refrigerant loop. The system is packaged onrna transportable skid for rapid deployment. Extensive cycle modeling has resulted in a mixedrnrefrigerant system that maximizes performance and efficiency. An experimental liquefier with uprnto 1 m3/day LNG (250 gpd) rating was successfully designed and tested. The system is beingrnscaled up to 4 m3/day (1,000 gpd) using a modular, skid-mounted approach. This system will berntested in 2002 together with associated gas cleanup equipment.
