摘要

The state-of-the-art in seismic rehabilitation of existing reinforced concrete buildings in Japan is described in this paper. Emphasis is placed on advances in research, design and practice after the 1995 Hyogoken-Nambu (Kobe) Earthquake which severely damaged a large number of buildings. Major topics include; 1) Recent research and development of seismic rehabilitation techniques. 2) Performance-based approaches for the design of seismic rehabilitation. 3) Case studies in practice of seismic rehabilitation which utilized new concepts, innovative methods and/or advanced materials.
