One of the many topics of scientific interest in the Department of Refrigeration Machines at the Odessa State Academy of Refrigeration (OSAR) is the adaptation of modern methods of applied thermodynamics for the analysis and optimization of machines working in inverse thermodynamic cycles. Schematic solutions of any type of refrigeration machines (heat pumps) contain two basic heat exchangers, namely condenser and evaporator, see, for example, Figure 32.1. From the viewpoint of heat exchanger classification, these heat exchangers are 'external', i.e. one of the flows is the environment (water or air for the condenser cooling and air for cooling by the evaporator).
