The modeling of electromagnetic field heating in human and animal bodies assumes its most complex form over the ultra-high frequency through the microwave frequency range, from about 300 MHz to about 10 GHz. Over this range, body anatomical and metabolic structures and tissue thermal pattern dimensions are comparable to radiation wavelengths, both outside and inside the body. At lower frequencies, fields are tending to quasi-static forms, ohmic heating is the dominant loss mechanism, and the field patterns of the exposure environment become the major concern. At higher frequencies, rapidly rising dielectric losses limit exposure to the superficial tissues, becoming anatomically and electromagnetically a skin-depth problem.
