In many practical design applications the steel frame girders are connected to the concrete floors by a small amount of shear connectors required for transferring the diaphragm forces and the slab contribution to the frame strength and stiffness is usually neglected. The benefits of the partial composite action in unbraced moment resisting frames (MRF) cannot be fully exploited due to lack of detailed code provisions and certain design and analysis issues.
