An array of ASMs and polymeric micelles (AScM) were synthesized with varying molecular weights, sizes and hydrophilic-lipophilic balance (HLB). For both ASMs and the polymeric micelles, drug encapsulation and subsequent release is controlled by the HLB. The ASMs were found to be non-cytotoxic to fibroblasts and Caco-2 cells, and the AscMs were non-cytotoxic to fibroblasts and IC21 cells. Both polymer systems influence drug transport, although the mechanism of transport is yet undefined.
