Heli- Winching System For Underwater Sensor Packages

Oceanographic data collection assumes more importance during the present times. The ocean data is required for environmental studies, climatic studies, exploration of ocean resources and maritime defence. Speedier data collection and vast area coverage are possible by using airborne systems. Sensor packages can be deployed from helicopters and the data collected can either be communicated to a land base or can be recorded onboard for further analysis. The deployment of the sensor package is achieved by using a heli-winching system. The paper describes the design philosophy and features of a heli-winching system.
