SUSPENDED PARTICULATE MATTER POLLUTION IN BINA OPEN CAST COAL MINE AREA

Ambient air quality/in surrounding areas of Bina Coal mine have been studied from September 2001 to August 2002. Total 120 ambient air samples have been collected from 5 sampling stations i.e. Jawahar colony, Bina Coal handling plant. Receiving pit of coal handling plant, near main sub station and near Gharsari village. Meteorological observations were also made during the study period. Present study reveals the highest concentration of SPM (1158 μg/m~3) at site -2 near the coal handling plant in summer season whereas the lowest concentration (112 μg/m~3) was recorded at site -5 near Gharsari village in rainy season. A negative and significant correlation (r = - 0.9296; has been established between SPM and Relative Humidity.
