摘要

Coal is the most abundant of all the primary sources of energy in India. The magnitude of mining activities in the years to come with more emphasis being led on opencast/underground mining, coupled with the setting up of giant pithead thermal power station at Korba coalfield, and Singrauli etc. would pass a daunting and complex environmental scenario. Potential environmental impact generated by mining activities includes, impact on landscape, subsidence, noise, ground vibration from blasting, air pollution, water pollution, ecological disturbance. The most important toxic ingredient in coal is trace metals which affect the surrounding environment to a greater extent. The concentration of trace metals in coal of Gevera and Kusmunda is discussed in this paper.
