An Overview of Technology and Uses of Recycled Plastics in Construction

Waste plastic proved to be good tor construction of road as it increases the life of roads three-fold. Use of these apart from reduction of frequency of road repairs will reduce the chances of seepage of rainwater due to presence of impervious and non-degradable plastic. However, the cost of road construction may be slightly higher as compared to the conventional method but this should not deter the adoption of the technology, as the benefits in lieu of its cost are more. Based on information available it is estimated that plastic pipes and ducts have life expectancy of 100 years, plastic windows 50 years, wall coverings 10 years. Since there are always limitations of availability of natural material, so the objective should be to minimize use and maximize recovery.
