摘要

This paper describes the application of SONET Virtual Path (VP) rings to support thernchanging nature of traffic and services that are transported between a carrier's business subscribers andrnthe core networks. Originally described by Bellcore [1], VP rings use Add/Drop Multiplexers (ADMs)rnbased on asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) in place of the traditional time division multiplexingrn(TDM) structure. This paper outlines the implications of changing traffic and service access rate mixrnon traditional SONET access infrastructure, and compares the same traffic parameters applied tornSONET VP rings.
