Nickel-base alloys designed for elevated temperature service can offer a high degree of mechanical integrity and corrosion resistance for extended service. Proper selection of a material for a particular application involves consideration of several important factors. Corrosion resistance is a major deciding factor and many relevant corrosion modes must be considered, such as oxidation, carburization, nitridation, sulfidation, and attack by halide salts and gaseous halogen-containing species. Mechanical properties are an important consideration as well and would include elevated temperature tensile, rupture and creep strength as well as fatigue strength and toughness. This paper provides a summary of high temperature corrosion properties for a broad spectrum of materials, including recent developments, with high temperature strength information.
