Utility Chromium Stainless Steels In The Transportation Industry

The advantages of stainless steel in the Transportation Industry have been well documented over the last two decades. Benefits have been based on fractional maintenance costs, improved operational efficiency, and favorable life cycle cost. The bus and coach industry, as well as rail and trucking industry applications have all exhibited excellent histories utilizing stainless steels. The introduction of die new generation utility ferritic stainless steels, (11%-12% Chromium, or Crl2) has led to a new and major benefit, which is driving the use of stainless steels in the transportation industry to new heights. Application of these corrosion resistant, utility steels in coal hopper cars, bus underframes, truck bodies and chassis, and even some European car chassis, has reshaped me thinking of those interested in excellent life cycle costing.
