The demanding requirements of corrosion resistance in waste incineration environments leadto the need for materials like the new alloy UNS N06045, commonly referred to Alloy 45TM(46Ni 27Cr 23Fe 2.75Si 0.1Ce). This new alloy exhibits excellent corrosion resistance inincineration environments because of its high chromium (27-28%) and silicon (2.5-3.0%)contents as well as the alloying of rare earth elements.An important criterion for the suitability of Alloy 45TM in waste incineration is a low weight lossduring operation. Of particular interest is the corrosion behavior in mixed gas environmentstypically found in incineration systems. The reliability of the incineration equipment will requirecorrosion resistance from both the base metal and the weldments.This paper provides corrosion data obtained in laboratory tests in various gas compositions attemperatures up to 1100℃. Special emphasis was given to the corrosion behavior shown bydifferent welding consumables like FM28 (UNS N08028) and FM 625 (UNS 06625).
