The concept of software reusability is examined from thenperspective of classifying and accessing reusable software. To improventhe practicality of software reuse, one has to have a knowledge of itsnlocation, an understanding of the reusable components, and itsnadaptability to a particular need. The current state-of-the-art methodsnare assessed, and a new system for performing classification-based reusenis proposed. The concepts of subsumption and closeness introducednpreviously (R. Prieto-Diaz and P. Freeman, 1987) are used by thenproposed reuse system to facilitate searching for reusable componentsnand to provide capabilities for helping programmers to assess the worthnof reusing particular packages. A description of the major algorithmsnrequired to compute these metrics is given. Also, domain analysis whichnhelps in deciding whether a particular application is oriented towardsnsoftware reuse is given
