The Ghazi-Barotha Hydropower Project is a super-scale project in the Islamica Republic of Pakistan. The Barrage across the river Indus,located near Ghazi about 9 km downstream of the Tarbela Dam,diverts water into the 54 km long power channel. This carries the water to the Power Complex near the village of Barotha. The Power Complex is designed to provide peaking capacity for a minimum of approximately 4 hours a day.In order to allow storage of water for power generation,a 10 km long embankment is built at the tail of diversion channel by using of siltstone as core and sandy gravel as shells from the excavation of structures in the power complex. This paper describs the application and investigation of using siltstone as core for earth rockfill embankment.
