摘要

The quick transmission of radiological data between Medical Treatment Facilities (MTFs) greatly determines the quality of care a wounded soldier receives. A typical full-body Computed Tomography (CT) study currently takes on average 4.5 hours to be transmitted from one MTF to another while a single digital chest x-ray can take over an hour. An evacuated wounded soldier often arrives at the higher-level MTF before the images sent by the lower-level MTF are received, impacting greatly the ability to receive proper and potentially lifesaving medical treatment. This study examines via modeling and simulation the transmission times of CT, X-ray, and ultrasound images between MTFs within IRAQ while varying the number of available satellite channels, adding broadband Line-of-Site (LOS) connectivity, and Hub-Spoke vs. Mesh satellite topologies - all against a goal of total image transmission time of 15 minutes or less for a 250 MB full-body CT study.
