A case study: application of short-duration, periodic bioslurping at a petroleum hydrocarbon release site

Bioslurping was implemented at a petroleum-release Site in Brookline, Massachusetts to remove free-product and to reduce soluble-phase concentrations fo petroleum hydrocarbons to below the State cleanup criteria. Bioslurping was conducted in short-duration applications with mobile equipment to avoid the cost of installing a 'permanent' remediation system. Recovered liquids (product and groundwater) were transported to an off-site treatment facility for disposal, thereby eliminating the need for a groundwater discharge permit and groundwater treatment equipment.
