Bacterial communities associated to Phragmites australis stands under severe pollution stress in Northern China

摘要

Northern China has a continental-arid climate with very low annual precipitation. In the last decades, the continuous and high pressure of population growth and land use has lead to an intensification of agricultural irrigation. Consequently, the water channel systems increased to more than 350% and the water demand to more than 250%. Moreover, the rapid industrial development from the primary to the middle phase and the intensive farming resulted in severe pollution with, e.g. heavy metals, pesticides, antibiotics, and nutrients. Our study sites are located in Zhangye (Gansu Province) and at the Wuliangsuhai Lake in the Hetao Irrigation District (Inner Mongolia Autonomous Province).
