Technological Interventions Reduce Deadly Hazards During Pipe-Laying

The paper introduces technological interventions that reduce deadly hazards during pipe- laying. They are the pipe manipulator and the prototype pipe manipulator. The pipe manipulator is used for laying large concrete pipe. It is equipped with joint device, rotation mechanism, lift fork with self lock mechanism, trolley driven, hydraulic and control device and wireless camera video system. The prototype pipe manipulator is used for PVC sewer pipe. It was fabricated with functions of taking off pipe, lifting it into a trench, connecting it with the pipe buried in the trench and adjusting it position for alinement with the pipe line. The two kinds of pipe manipulator are successfully developed and tested in construction site. They are the symbolization of the technology advancement in the pipe laying engineering. The safety will be improved in the pipe laying construction site. The manipulators will replace some labors and decrease the accident in the construction site.
