A novel comparative assessment of D-FACTS (DVR and D-Statcom) mitigating global voltage sag in distribution systems is introduced. The performances of D-FACTS devices are compared basing on the problem of optimization where their locations are optimally selected on minimizing the system average rms frequency index (SARFIx). In this problem of optimization, the effectiveness of global voltage sag compensation by DVR and D-Statcom is modeled in the problem of short-circuit calculation by using Thevenin's superimposition and suitable models of DVR and D-Statcom. The paper uses the IEEE 33-buses test distribution system for voltage sag simulation and influential parameters in the problem of optimization are discussed for better comparisons.
