The grounding circulation of the Gas insulated switchgear (GIS) is related to the safe operation of the equipment and the personal safety of the staffs in the station. In this paper, the coupling relationship between GIS conductor and shell is analyzed firstly, and the hollow transformer model suitable for three-phase split box GIS and three-phase common box GIS is derived. According to the relevant knowledge of electromagnetic field, the specific calculation formula of conductor impedance, shell impedance and mutual impedance between conductor shells is given. Finally, through two typical cases, the shell circulation of 550kV GIS and 126kV GIS is simulated and the approximate distribution of three-phase boxed GIS and three-phase common box GIS shell circulation is given.
